SOUND HEALING
Our sound healing section includes information and techniques on using sound as an energy healing tool with mantras, toning, chanting, spoken positive affirmations, crystal singing bowls, and metal singing bowls.
A quick definition: Sound Healing is defined as using sound and vibration to elicit a beneficial effect in a person, place or thing. It is based on the idea that everything in the universe is vibrating at a certain frequency and that sound can be used to change the frequency of our cells.
When we are vibrating at a frequency that is harmonious to our surroundings, we feel well. If we are not, we feel agitated, stressed, or unwell. There have been numerous studies that show sounds made with the intention of healing result in a stronger response.
HOW I GOT STARTED WITH SOUND HEALING
I was introduced to Sound Healing several years ago while visiting a friend of a friend. He had a beautiful house filled with metaphysical tools and toys. Dozens of large crystal skulls, new age art, and all sorts of other cool stuff.
In the center of one room, he had a collection of crystal singing bowls. I had never seen them before and was fascinated. I could feel the energy healing potential emanating from them. He asked if I had heard quartz crystal singing bowls before and, when I told him I hadn't, he asked if I would like to. I told him I would love to and sat down to listen.
He tapped the side of a bowl and started playing. I could feel the healing energy envelop my body instantly. My third eye was flooded with a burst of healing colors. Music filled my soul. Images of the stars and planets came into my mind's eye. I felt that I was a large planet and as the sound moved through me, energy flowed along the rings of the planet I was embodying. (Visit the Rings of Uranus and Crystal Singing Bowls page to read about the amazing discovery of the connection between singing bowls and the planet Uranus.)
I was used to paying attention to subtle inner messages but these were less than subtle. These were not even trying to be subtle. Spirit was making absolutely sure that I was present for this life experience.
After this event, I was guided by Spirit to make sound therapy an active part of my life. I ended up buying fifteen quartz crystal singing bowls, studied books on the healing powers of sound, and listened to new age music and healing music.
I studied the history of sound as a therapeutic practice. Chanting and toning were added to my regular practice of deep breathing and meditation. I used the experience as a catalyst to change my life. My gratitude goes out to Great Spirit and Mother Earth for blessing me with the wisdom to pursue this specialized form of energy healing.
I have been actively practicing sound therapy, both personally and professionally, for over five years. I use a combination of voice, crystal singing bowls, Tibetan singing bowls (also known as Himalayan singing bowls or metal singing bowls) ting-shaws, tuning forks, and Native American rattles. I have recently started developing an interest in Australian Aboriginal sound healing using clapsticks and didjeridoo. As with my study of herbalism, the more I learn about sounds, music, and the power of the human voice, the more I find to learn. It's a fantastic journey and I am in no hurry. I'm having fun along the way.
Below we have many pages about sound healing. One of our visitor's favorites is the science of sound healing. It has case histories and scientific studies that shows amazing statistics and results about the powers of sound.
