Image: The Reiki Five Spiritual Principles in Kanji ________________________________________________________________ These principals formed a bedrock of Mikao Usui’s belief system. It is said he taught these five principals to his students at the beginning of their learning. It is believed that Usui considered his work to be the teaching of a spiritual method. The hands on energy healing was one aspect of it, but not the most important aspect. Over time much of Usui’s spiritual method has been removed by the various Reiki Masters that carried on his work. He used these five principles, which were from the Meji Emeperor of Japan, along with most likely a blend of his Buddhist background, and possibly other sources. For your Reiki practice it is recommended that you print out a copy of the five spiritual principles and display them in your home where you can keep them close to your heart and mind. To understand Reiki as a healing method it is important to understand Reiki as a spiritual method for enlightenment. Reiki is more than physical healing. It is emotional, mental, and spiritual healing also. By living these principles you will find your life settling into a comfortable alignment with the universe around you, and miracles will open. There are many varied versions of Usui’s five spiritual principles. I’ve included one that I found at www.reiki-enlightenment.com. It is a direct translation of Usui’s Japanese version, and one that is worthy of meditating over. It shows a clearer understanding of Usui’s message, although not as abbreviated as the Western text. Use whichever feels intuitively correct for you. It is recommended that as you attune to the Reiki energies, that you spend time each day contemplating Usui’s principles.
